Taylor Mouthpieces are specifically designed to be used with Taylor Trumpets and Flugelhorns. While most other makes of mouthpieces can be used in Taylor instruments, it is Taylor Mouthpieces that are made to match tonally and cosmetically in balance with the instrument. If you buy your Taylor Trumpet from a dealer, there is every chance you will get a 3c equivalent with it. We feel this is a good all rounder that compliments these trumpets very well. If you should need any other size, we can build a mouthpiece for you. It helps to know what your preferences are so we have a point from which to start. We can copy most cup and rim configurations, so long as you give us something to work from.
The mouthpiece is important, as it is the link between you and your instrument. There are however limits, that need to be understood. A mouthpiece of this style and weight is not going to behave exactly as a regular weight mouthpiece, no matter how accurate the internal dimensions are duplicated. The reason is the extra mass involved. This increases the stability of the airflow and will change the blowing character slightly. This is generally a help in your Taylor Trumpet. Using a regular type mouthpiece results in a loss of centre. The mouthpiece 'backs up' and tries to do some of the vibrating the trumpet has effectively reduced. Some players love the effect of using a light mouthpiece in a heavy horn in certain circumstances, and then change back again for the bulk of their playing. We are not suggesting this is bad or wrong, merely that there will be a difference. It would be foolish of us to dictate to any player how he or she should play. We can only point out what may happen in a given situation. Should you need us, we are here to help you get the best from your Taylor instrument, including the suggestion of a suitable mouthpiece. The
flugel mouthpieces need no modification to fit regular FL receivers.
We would not recommend the use of our flugel mouthpiece in large bore
flugels as this would not give the best blowing response. |
