Taylor Trumpets

Regular users of the site will know there were 37 tracks on this page. The page was also a victim of its own success. Over the course of time it had filtered onto other free music download lists and is now being ‘taken’ so many times they can’t all possibly be from trumpet players! It may be free to the end user, but it’s us here who have to pay for server space each time it’s downloaded. This is now turning out to be a bit costly. So unfortunately instead of an update with more tunes we have to trim it to something more manageable. It was this or ask you to pay for them and I didn’t want to go down that route.

There are now 5 tracks covering a good cross section of styles. Please choose whichever ones you want to listen to. Hopefully these will give you a good indication of how a Taylor instrument can work in that musical environment.

All the tracks have been given freely by the individual musicians. None of these are high buck record company studio recordings. The originals are owned entirely by the performer and no tracks in these forms belong to any other company. No profit is being made on this site or by the performer for there use.

Artist: Bryan Corbett

A track from his Corbenova CD. A piece of Contemporary Groove based jazz, with a particularly sweet introduction.

Bryan Corbett became involved in music at age 7 when his father gave him his first trumpet. His musical background includes the positions of principle trumpet with the National Children’s Wind Orchestra of Great Britain and the International Youth Wind Orchestra, performing in venues around the world. Through his father jazz has always been a major influence in his music training.

Bryan studied in Liverpool and the Royal Northern College of Music. He also received scholarships to study in Norway and with some of North America’s top jazz artists in the USA. His influences include Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis, to name but a few.

1998 saw Bryan join Curtis Little and the Receivers, working hard around the UK Midlands top venues. The start of his own quintet saw him appearing at nationwide jazz venues such as Ronnie Scotts and on National TV. Bryan released his second album Simply Blue in 2001. Good reviews have established Bryan as one of the UK’s most respected jazz trumpeters. He has worked with Courtney Pine, Kenny Baker, Tommy Smith and the North America All Stars Big Band to name but a few.

The release of Bryan's album ‘Corbenova’ has attracted considerable media and radio interest and has been remixed for general release. The two tracks for download are from the original album. Bryan now travels the world as his career moves into its next phase.

Artist: Rhamlee Michael Davis
Track: Tenderly

Classic ballad, played totally unaccompanied. Just the horn and a mike, very brave!

Now, who has not heard this guy play at least a thousand times. He is the part of the world famous ‘Phoenix Horns’. The brass section of Earth Wind & Fire from its classic period. The ‘Phoenix horns’ were, and still are in demand for that icing on the cake, the magic fairy dust, call it what you will. Phil Collins million seller Sussudio album created a big stir at the time and still does. That’s Rhamlee and the boys writing and playing the big brass arrangements as well.

You would usually hear Rhamlee as part of a band, but for this Rhamlee has been brave enough to record the trumpet totally unaccompanied. Nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. This is the sound of the player and his horn, pure and simple. No tricks, no double tracking, no second chance.

Artist: Davie Howes
Made a classic by Louis Armstrong only this time played on the trumpet and not sung! Smooth funk style, very sexy!
Davie Howes was born in Norfolk, England, and started his career on trumpet in brass bands. Playing in youth jazz orchestras inspired his interest, with influences such as Maynard Ferguson and Dizzy Gillespie. The film the Fabulous Baker Boys and Dave Grusin were his inspiration to study piano. Davie is an accomplished pianist and busy arranger as well, and now splits his professional life trying to juggle all three!

Davie gives his personal interpretation of ‘Wonderful World’ originally a huge hit for Louis Armstrong. Louis did not play trumpet on the hit record, and Davie responds by not singing on his version. ‘So What’ is a different twist on a popular classic.

Artist: Peter Volpe
Peter own upbeat tune. Straight ahead jazz. Just a Hammond organ and a trumpet, no double bass solo!

Peter Volpe is originally from the north east of England. After studying Music and French in London he moved to France. Based in Paris, he has been a professional freelance musician since 1980, working principally in the fields of Jazz and Latin music. He has a particular interest in mainstream modern jazz. In addition to his various activities as a sideman, he runs his own quintet in which Partick Vilanueva, heard on the Hammond organ, is his regular pianist.

‘Keeping an Eye on Spring’ and ‘Ten Eighty Six’ are Peters own compositions.

Artist: Richard Larder / Richie Clendenin
Cal State University Brass Quintet
Yes, people do play classical music on Taylors. Trumpet duet with piano accompaniment.
Richard Larder was an exchange student from Leeds College of Music in England who swapped places with a student from Cal State Uni for a year. Richie Clendenin was one of his trumpet professors while at Cal State. Accompaniment is by the University Brass Quintet. Something of a different musical environment from Taylor trumpets more usual commercial setting. Proof indeed that classical music can be played on a Taylor!! These are not a fancy studio recordings, just a couple of microphones, a tape, and the guys playing.
